TOUR DESCRIPTION

Sibenik Shore Excursion

This Sibenik shore trip is a walking tour which reveals the oldest Croatian town on the Adriatic Sea, which sits in a naturally protected port at the mouth of the beautiful Krka river. Highlights include St. Jacob's Cathedral and a rare medieval style garden.

After meeting your guide at the port you start your walk into Sibenik's Old Town. Some of the highlights in the Old Town include; the Gothic Church of St. Frane which dates to the 14th century and has richly carved ceilings and altars, the Church of St. Ivan and the Sibenik Theater which was built in 1870 and was the largest in the country at that time. You'll see the 16th century Town Hall and the former Dukes Palace which is now the Museum of the City of Sibenik.

Next you visit a unique Mediterranean Garden. After being forgotten for hundreds of years the garden was recently reopened. This medieval style garden is notably rare, with only a few remaining in Europe. The garden follows an established medieval style with a cross design for a pathway and a small centrally located water feature. There are four sections filled with medicinal plants and herbs. A special place has been assigned for an assortment of thyme in a wonderful array of red, purple, silver, light and dark green foliage. The sensational combination of colors is a true work of art.

The last stop is the Jewel of the Dalmatian coast, St. Jacob's Cathedral. This 15th century masterpiece was built by Juraj Dalmatinac, whose statue stands on the square in front of the Cathedral. The building is one of the most original architectural projects of the late Middle Ages and it is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

After the walking tour you have some free time to explore on your own before your guide walks back to the pier with you.
