This full day Alicante shore trip visits the charming village of Guadalest, one of the most visited towns in all of Spain. In the afternoon you have the chance to visit the Castle of Santa Barbara and some time to explore Alicante's old town.
After meeting your guide at the pier in Alicante you depart for the hilltop town of Guadalest. On the way you enjoy a short photo stop in the mountainous outskirts of Guadalest. The picturesque village of Guadalest is perched like an eagle's nest on the mountainside. Even though it has only 200 residents, it is one of the top sights in Spain. In 1974 it was declared a "Monument of Historical and Artistic Value".
Guadalest enjoys a spectacular location, set high on a pinnacle and carved right into the mountain. Your tour takes you through the cobbled streets of this fairytale village, and lets you enjoy the spectacular views. You'll walk up to the upper village through a tunnel hewn out of the rock. On this rock sits the famous castle ruins and the distinctive church bell tower. You will visit the tastefully restored House of the Ordunas which once belonged to the overlords of the valley below.
You have the chance to see the ruined castle which dates back to the 12th century. The castle is of Islamic origin and was an important factor in defending the city. In 1644 an earthquake badly damaged the castle so today you have the ruins.
After the tour, free time is included for you to have lunch on your own.
After lunch you drive back to Alicante and your first stop is the Castle of Santa Barbara which occupies the entire summit and large portions of the mountain's slope, dominating the city below. It is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe and dates back to the 16th century. From its battlements you will enjoy spectacular views over the city, the coastline and the surrounding farmland.
Later you enjoy a stroll through the charming old quarter which is nestled at the foot of the imposing castle. It is a maze of small streets climbing up the hill. Many of the streets are lined with multicolored buildings and interesting balconies. You see the impressive 18th century baroque Town Hall, where your guide will provide you with details of its imposing exterior.
At the end of the tour you are brought back to the pier.
