This Amsterdam shore trip visits the charming fishing villages of Marken and Volendam. Marken's charming wooden houses are on stilts standing above it's small harbor. Volendam is known for its traditional Dutch customs which you enjoy today.
After meeting your private licensed guide in Amsterdam you start a scenic drive through the countryside, passing dikes and through typical Dutch villages. In Marken you enjoy a walking tour among old wooden houses which were built on stilts and artificial hills to protect the inhabitants from the floods. The town was once an island but as part of land reclamations it is now part of the mainland on lake Ijsselmeer.
Next you stop at a traditional farm to taste some local cheese and see how clogs are made.
Upon arrival in Volendam you have free time (meal not included) where you can enjoy lunch on the large dike which protects the town from flooding. Your guide will provide suggestions for typical foods you should try.
Then you enjoy a walking tour of this popular fairytale fishing village which is dressed in traditional customs. On the way back to Amsterdam you stop for photos of Holland's famous windmills.
