This Ancona shore trip visits the historic hilltop town of Assisi, which is known for one of its most famous residents, St. Francis, who was born here in 1182. You enjoy a waling tour of Assisi with a visit to the Basilica of St. Francis, and also some free time.
You meet your driver at the pier and start the journey to Assisi, located in the Umbria Region. Assisi is a small medieval hilltop town with a population of about 25,000. Upon arrival in Assisi you are joined by a licensed tour guide who provides your private group a walking tour of the town.
A highlight of the tour is a visit to the beautiful Basilica of St. Francis. This massive 2 level church was consecrated in the year 1253. The frescos from the 13th century portrait the life of the town's patron St. Francis.
Your guide provides detailed descriptions and you each have your own earpiece so that you can hear them clearly (except very small groups).
After the walking tour and visit of the basilica you have free time for lunch and some shopping or self exploration. Then your guide will get you back to your vehicle for the journey back to the pier in Ancona.
