This Ancona day trip visits the historic country of San Marino, one of the smallest countries in the world. You will explore its hilltop town, enjoy stunning views and then have free time for lunch, shopping or self exploration.
You meet your driver at the pier and start the journey to San Marino, a 25 square mile landlocked country which has existed since the 4th century. The country has a population of only about 35,000 people.
Upon arrival in San Marino you are joined by a local tour guide who provides your private group a walking tour of the town. You start by entering San Marino via the grand Saint Francis Gate. Once you are through the gate you will be impressed with this well preserved medieval delight.
As you stroll through narrow streets you will see the town's fortified walls and some of her highlights such as the Palazzo Pubblico, the monumental Basilica of San Marino and the simple Church of Saint Francis.
Your walking tour is about 2 hours and includes walking on some cobblestones and some uphill grades so we strongly recommend comfortable shoes. After the walking tour you have free time for lunch, shopping or self exploration. Not to be missed is one of the amazing viewpoints which affords wonderful views over the Italian countryside. You are sure to take lots of photos of some of the ancient churches and stone houses.
After the free time your guide will get you back to your vehicle for the journey back to the pier in Ancona.
