This
Argostoli shore trip allows you to sample local wine, visit one of the island's monasteries, take a boat cruise on a cave lake and have some free time in a local resort town. A beautiful outing for your time on the island of Cephalonia.
After meeting your guide you start your drive up the slopes of Mount Ainos to the Rombola Winery. You stop for a short tour to gain insight into the production methods
of the famous local Rombola wine. Following the tour is a chance to enjoy a taste of
the wine.
Next is a visit to the Old Monastery of Saint Gerasimos where the mummified body of the Saint Protector of the island is kept. If you are interested, it is possible to visit the crypt of the Saint which is hidden in the monastery basement.
During the drive to the cave lake of Melissani you have a chance to see a unique Abies Cefalonica (fir tree) forest which is located near the peak of Mount Ainos. When you arrive at the lake you walk a short distance down a tunnel which leads to the beautiful underground lake. You board small wooden boats for the short trip around the lake and the surrounding caves.
The tour then continues to the coastal summer resort of Sami on the northeastern shores of the island. Here, you have some free time to relax in one of the traditional coffee shops, sample local wines and enjoy a walk around the old port for some souvenir shopping.
At the end of your excursion you return to the pier in Argostoli.
