Ashdod Shore Excursion
This Ashdod Jewish Heritage tour includes highlights such as the Tomb of King David, the Kotel Tunnels, the Davidson Center, David's Tower Museum, the Israel Museum, and Yad Vashem. There is a lot of information and history packed into this full day tour.
After meeting your guide at the pier in Ashdod, you immediately depart for Jerusalem. Upon arrival you tour the old city starting with a visit to the tomb of King David on Mt. Zion. On the ground level of the site are several Jewish synagogues. This site is one of the most Holiest Jewish places.
In the Jewish Quarter you will visit the four Sephardic synagogues which were restored after the 1967 war. Next you visit the Western Wall and enjoy a tour of the Kotel Tunnels. For many people this is a highlight of the day as the Tunnels are not just an awe-inspiring journey through time, but a fascinating lesson in Jewish history and the archeology of Jerusalem.
Next you visit the Davidson center which offers an introduction to the Jerusalem Archaeological Park. You see archaeological objects, augmented by audio and visual information. One of the highlights is a virtual reality reconstruction of the Herodian Temple Mount as it stood before its destruction in the year 70 CE.
Later you walk through the Roman Cardo, the local Arab bazaar and through the Jaffa Gate to David's Tower museum and see the ancient remains of the city beginning with the first Temple period.
Free time for lunch (meal not included) is provided.
This afternoon you continue to the new city where you visit the Israel museum, which is the largest cultural institution in the State of Israel and is ranked among the world's leading art and archeology museums. Located here is the Shrine of the Book which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Finally you visit Yad Vashem, which is Israel's official memorial to victims of the Holocaust. Included at the site are The Holocaust History Museum, the Museum of Holocaust Art, an Exhibitions Pavilion and Synagogue. Please note that the Holocaust History Museum does not permit entrance to children under the age of 10 years old, including babies.
You return to Ashdod late this afternoon.
