This Bilbao shore tour visits the old town of Bilbao, called Casco Viejo. You enjoy a drive through the modern city to see some of the modernist architecture and then you head to Gexto to see the famous Hanging Bridge (Vizcaya Bridge).
After meeting your guide you will drive to the old town where you have time to explore medieval Bilbao with its cobbled streets, charming corners and little squares. The old town is often referred to as Las Siete Calles (the Seven Streets) because that’s how many cobbled walkways were originally located within the city walls. In the 1800s the old town expended towards Plaza Nueva which is a very popular area. You have the chance to see the cathedral or some other churches and then if you wish you can sample pintxos (tapas on sticks) and some wine in one of the areas many taverns.
After visiting the old town you start to drive to the coastal neighborhood of Getxo. While doing so you will see some of modernist architecture including the Bilbao Guggenheim Musuem.
Next you visit the beach side neighborhood of Gexto. The town is well known for its
hanging bridge or Vizcaya Bridge. The bridge was the first shuttle bridge in the world made with a metallic structure and it dates back to the end of the 19th century. The bridge connects to the sides of the Nervion River and it's shuttle transport is suspended from the bride. The shuttle can accommodate cars and passengers and the unique design allows ships to come into the port uninterrupted. In 2006 the bridge was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the end of the tour, your guide will take you back to the pier.
