Copenhagen Shore Excursion
This Copenhagen shore tour includes guided visits to Christiansborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle. You also see Amalienborg Palace, which is the current residence of the Royal Danish Family.
Throughout the centuries Danish monarchs have erected lasting monuments which today give Copenhagen its old world charm. On castle island you will find Christiansborg Palace, and it was at this spot that Bishop Absalon founded Copenhagen in 1167. The original castle no longer exists, however, during the centuries there have been several palaces and castles here and it was once the home of the Royal family.
After a fire in 1794, the palace was no longer used as the Royal residence and the family moved to Amalienborg Palace. Today's palace is a large complex of buildings which house the Danish Parliament and the Supreme Court as well as the Queen's Reception rooms, which are visited as part of your tour.
Note: In the event that the Queen is using the Reception Rooms, it would not be possible to visit this portion of Christiansborg Palace.
After visiting Christiansborg Palace you visit Rosenborg Castle. This small but beautiful Renaissance castle was built in the early 17th century by King Christian IV. Today the castle is a museum housing the Crown Jewels as well as a grand collection of royal furniture, paintings and other memorabilia.
