This half day
Kalamata shore trip visits Ancient Messina, the most well preserved city of ancient Greece and the
Hellenistic period, and one of the largest in size. Also included is a photo stop at the Arcadian Gate.
After meeting your guide you start the drive to Ancient Messina. First you enjoy a photo stop to see the Arcadian Gate which once connected Messina with Arcadia. This monumental fortification was built with huge limestone slabs and is an awe-inspiring site. It is circular with two entrances, a double inner and an outer where we will stop for photos.
Your next stop is Ancient Messina. During the visit of the old town you will see the main monuments and attractions, such as the theater, the building of the ancient Parliament, the unusually large area of the Market and stage. One of the interesting findings of ancient Messina is a round church with an impressive mosaic which was just recently discovered. You visit both the site and the museum then if extra time exists you can enjoy a coffee break overlooking the findings of the ancient city.
At the end of the tour, you return to Kalamata.
