TOUR DESCRIPTION

Kotor Shore Excursion

This Kotor shore trip starts with a walking tour of Kotor's old town, followed by a visit to the charming village of Perast and a boat excursion on the Bay of Kotor.

After meeting your tour guide at the pier in Kotor you enjoy a walking tour through the maze of medieval Kotor, its bustling market and among beautiful Renaissance buildings. The well preserved fortified walls of Kotor are nearly 3 miles long and it is considered one of the world's historic values.

Your tour includes a visit to the Cathedral of St. Tryphon which was built in 1166 on the remains of a former 9th century temple. You will see the remains from 14th century frescoes as well as the valuable treasury with both local and Venetian golden works dating from the 14th to the 20th centuries.

After a thorough walking tour of Kotor you take a boat to the charming village of Perast. This small town is a wonderful example of baroque architecture. While you are in Perast you have a short walk among buildings and villas which were built during the city's prosperous years of the 17th and 18th centuries. There were 14 churches built during that period, among them is the unfinished parish church of St Nicholas, a Venetian-Romanesque variation of baroque style. Its bell tower is 179 feet high and has an inscription which proudly reads that the Turkish threat ended after the Venetians conquered Herceg Novi and Risan. Although it is open to the sky, the great apse of the main altar makes a significant contribution to the coastline of Perast.

Next you join a 20 minute boat excursion (non-private) which allows you to photograph the island of Our Lady of the Rocks which is home to a small Byzantine style church which was built in 1667. After your cruise, you drive back to Kotor.

Note: The order of the tour may change based on boat schedules on the day of your visit.

Mobility: No wheelchairs
