This Lisbon day trip explores the Portuguese Riviera including Sintra and Cascais. This area is considered some of the wealthiest communities in Portugal and beyond, having been home to European royalty for generations. A highlight is a visit to the National Pena Palace and Park.
When you arrive in Sintra you start your visit with a walk through the Pena Park to discover secret caves and trails. Then a highlight of the tour is a visit to the the National Pena Palace, listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The castle dates from the 19th century and is one of the most important examples of Portuguese architecture from the Romantic period.
Next you visit the historical center of Sintra where you’ll have some free time to explore, shop and enjoy lunch. If you are interested, it is possible to visit the National Palace of Sintra (entry not included).
After lunch, you will drive through the natural wonders of Sintra Natural Park, passing by several impressive palaces. You enjoy a photo stop at the Roca Cape cliffs – the westernmost point of Continental Europe.
Then you continue on a scenic drive along the Atlantic coast. The next photo stop is Guincho Beach, a surfer’s paradise.
Later you pass Boca do Inferno (Hell’s mouth cliff) on your way to the glamorous town of Cascais. While in Cascais you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the bay.
Before returning to Lisbon you pass by Estoril and its famous casino, one of the largest in Europe.
