London Day Trips

This London day trip visits Windsor Castle, one of the three official Royal Residences. Then in the afternoon you enjoy a walking tour of Oxford's main sites including a visit to the Christ Church Cathedral.

After meeting your private guide you depart for Windsor and The Royal Borough which lies to the west of London in the charming rural countryside of Royal Berkshire. The River Thames flows through the Royal Borough and it is near the river that many historic and attractive towns and villages can be found. While you are here, you will visit Windsor Castle.

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. This castle has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. The Queen spends most of her private weekends at Windsor and has certain periods throughout the year when she has extended stays. In addition to being her home, the Queen uses the castle for ceremonial and State functions.

St Georges Chapel is located within the Castle Precincts and is the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter, the oldest order of chivalry in the world. Dating back to the 14th century, today the Order consists of The Queen, The Prince of Wales and 24 Knight Companions.

A typical tour at Windsor Castle includes the State Apartments, the Drawings Gallery, Queen Marys Dolls House and St Georges Chapel. However, Windsor Castle is a working royal palace and therefore security and opening arrangements may be subject to change with little or no notice.

After visiting Windsor Castle, you travel to Oxford, where you have free time for lunch (meal not included) before touring the town known as The City of Dreaming Spires. Oxford is a beautiful university town which has been the home to scholars and royals for over 800 years. You will enjoy the spacious lawns and parks set among interesting spires and the Thames and Cherwell Rivers.

Your guide will lead you on a walk through the historic city center where you will learn the history of Oxford's university, architecture and traditions which have been passed down in its most famous buildings and institutions.

The University of Oxford is made up of 36 separate colleges including All Souls College, Lincoln College, Magdalen College, Trinity College and the largest, Christ Church College. Christ Church College was used as a double for Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter movies so you may recognize some buildings.

The Cathedral at Christ Church is the Anglican Diocese of Oxford. The highlights include the world famous Cathedral Choir and the scholarly collections of books and art. The shrine and tomb of St Frideswide, Oxford's patron saint, is also located inside the Cathedral.

At the end of the tour, you return to your hotel in London.

Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)
