This half day Palma shore trip explores the island’s interior wine region. Wine production dates back to Roman times and in the last few decades there has been a revitalization of the industry. Your excursion includes a tour and tasting at two local bodega (wineries).
Palma de Mallorca’s climate is very similar to that of the South of France and Italy making very agreeable vine growing conditions. The interior of the island has soil rich in clay and limestone content, also making it an ideal location for vines.
After meeting your guide, you travel inland to the area where most wine growing and bodegas are located, near the small towns of Binissalem and Santa Maria del Cami. Some of the bodega date back to the 18th century and others are part of the 21st century revitalization.
During your shore excursion you will learn about the history of wine making on the island. In the 14th to 19th centuries a local sweet wine was heavily exported to Northern European countries such as England, the Netherlands and Germany. In more recent times the local wines have primarily been used for the domestic market.
You will visit two different bodega and have the chance to sample local white, rose and red wines. The wineries visited depends on opening days and availability but some of our favorites include Bodega Angel at Santa Eufemia, Macia Batle and Jose Luis Ferrer.
At the end of your excursion you will be brought back to the pier (or your hotel) in Palma.
Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)
