Prague tour provides you the highlights of the city of 100 spires. The focus is learning about the city's history and providing you an orientation as you follow the Royal Way, which includes the Prague Castle, the Charles Bridge and the Old Town. This tour is designed for first time visitors to Prague or for anyone who only has a short amount of time in Prague.
Prague is an amazing blend of many architectural styles, including Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Noveau, as well as Cubism and modern architecture. Your guide will start to point out these styles as you drive from your hotel to the Castle Complex which looms on the hill high above the city.
Once you reach the Prague Castle you enjoy a walk through the complex, which is where the Royal Way begins. In the complex you see the famous guards which stand at its entrance. Included in the Castle tour are St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St George's Basilica and Daliborka Tower. You end the Castle visit with a stroll through the charming 16th century Golden Lane. From the complex you enjoy panoramic views of the historical city center and its many spires.
Then you continue your way down the hill walking along Nerudova street which is the royal route and leads you to the famous Charles Bridge, built in 1357. Both ends of the bridge are fortified by towers. On the castle side is the Lesser Town Bridge Tower and on the opposite site is the Old Town Bridge Tower. You walk across this impressive bridge under the gaze of thirty statues of saints which were placed on the bridge's piers from 1683 to 1928. Your guide will explain some of the statues as you walk. This is the top spot for tourists in Prague so you also see street performers, artists and vendors plying their art and wares.
Once you've crossed the bridge you are in the Old Town of Prague. You continue next to the main Old Town Square which is considered the most significant square of historical Prague. The square is bordered by caf̩s and restaurants, and full of life. You see Tyn Church, St. Nicholas Church, the Jan Hus Memorial and the Town Hall with is famous Tower. You will gather with others to see the amazing astronomical clock. This medieval clock has been keeping accurate time since 1410, making it the oldest such clock in the world and a popular draw for visitors. Your guide will explain to you how the clock works and how to read the current time on it.
After visiting the Old Town Square your last stop will be the Gothic style Powder Tower, a monumental entrance to the Old Town built in 1475. It was near here where Royal had their residences for hundreds of years. They lived in this area and walked the Royal Way just as you did from the Prague Castle to their homes near here.
Prague is one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe. Since it escaped bombing during WWII, it retains a unique character that you are sure to enjoy. You end your tour in the Old Town so you can further explore, shop or enjoy a beer and meal.
