This Split shore trip visits the town of Omis which is known as a center for medieval pirates. Then you enjoy a boat cruise along the stunning rock canyon of the Cetina river. Following your cruise you have a typical Croatian lunch in a beautiful setting alongside the river.
In Omis you see the well preserved fortress of Mirabella which bears witness to the pirate history of the town. Omis was a fortified town in the Middle Ages and the remains of these medieval fortifications include the town gate and parts of the stone walls. You see the tower on Fosal, the fortification on the cliff above the town and the ruins of the fortress Fortica on the hill some 900 feet above Omis. After a sightseeing tour of Omis you enjoy free time to walk around this "pirate nest".
Later you board small boats (12 seats) for a pleasant cruise along the beautiful Cetina river. For many centuries the power of the river was used to operate the wheels of water mills. These mills (called mlinice) were first mentioned in the 17th century but began to flourish in the 19th century when they were renovated by the Radman family, whose name they still carry today.
After the river excursion you enjoy a typical Croatian lunch at the Radmanove Mlinice (meaning Radman Mills) restaurant. The river side location of the restaurant is splendid, with untouched natural surroundings including tall trees making it a perfect spot. A typical light lunch consists of local products such as fish, smoked ham, cheese, olives, wine, grappa and natural water.
Mobility: Folding wheelchair OK, some sites may be inaccessible (advance notice required)
