Venice Shore Excursion

This full day Venice shore trip explores Verona's historic city center to see the top sites including the famous Roman arena. After a lunch break you also learn the story and see the sights of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

You will be met at the pier in Venice by your private English speaking driver who will take you to Verona. Upon arrival in Verona you meet your licensed city guide for a private walking tour. Verona dates back to the Roman Empire, when it was one of the most important Roman cities. You start your tour with a panoramic drive to see: the Renaissance city-gates, the Scaliger Bridge and Castle, the Roman Gavi Arch, the Roman city-gate "Borsari", the Roman bridge and various churches.

After your driving tour you start walking through Piazza Bra to see the famous Roman Arena, a wonderful example of Roman antiquity. Nearby there are lots of cafes and restaurants so you will enjoy some free time on your own for lunch and some shopping if you wish.

Following lunch you continue your walking tour with a focus on the sites related to Romeo and Juliet. You visit the Herb and Gentlemen's Squares to set the historical period. You see Romeo's house and Carlotti Palace, the place where the duel between Romeo and Tybalt took place. Along Pallone Street you stop at a bust of Shakespeare.

The highlight of the tour is Juliet's balcony. The stone balcony is part of a 13th century house built in the style of Gothic architecture. Also located here is the bronze statue of Juliet. Many people leave a love note or rub Juliet's breast for good luck. If you are interested, you can visit the museum inside Juliet's home which displays typical furniture from the time period.

At the end of your tour, your driver will take you back to the pier in Venice.
