This
Vienna day trip welcomes you to visit Austria’s oldest wine estate, the monastery of Klosterneuburg. Your visit includes an informative tour of the baroque cellar complex as well as a wine tasting.
After meeting your driver-guide at your hotel or the Danube River cruise docks you start the journey to Klosterneuburg, passing some of Vienna’s most important wine locations like Neustift and Grinzing.
Upon arrival in Klosterneuburg you will meet a local monastery guide who will lead you on an informative exploration of the baroque cellar complex which, supported by 3 foot thick brick walls, reaches down to a depth of up to 110 feet. Here, at Austria’s oldest winery, you will experience the connection between a centuries old wine growing tradition and the most modern winery technology. The guided tour provides you with a 900-year history of wine production in Klosterneuburg. Highlights of the tour will be the baroque wine cellar, the fermenting cellar, the press house (once the 14th century church) and a film on the Klosterneuburg Monastery wine.
At the end of the tour, you have the opportunity to enjoy a wine tasting in the monastery wine room, a cellar vault dating from the 12th century.
At the end of the visit you will be taken back to your hotel or the river cruise docks.
