Warsaw, Poland - This tour visits one of Poland's greatest national treasures, the Wilanow Palace and Park. Often referred to as "the pearl of Polish architecture" or "the Polish Versailles", you are certain to be delighted with this visit to one of Warsaw's top tourist draws.
After meeting your guide, you immediately depart for Wilanow which is located on the southern end of modern day Warsaw. The palace was built for King John III Sobieski and his wife Maria Kazimiera after he was crowned in 1674. The king initially lived in the traditional king's palace which is in the old town of Warsaw but he and his wife longed for country living so the village of Wilanow was purchased and this Baroque style palace built.
Highlights of your visit include the royal apartments where you see period furniture, fabrics, glass, ceramics and gold-work. Also important is the Polish Portrait Gallery which provides a glimpse into the development of Polish portrait painting. Featured are 400 portraits of famous Poles from the 16th to 19th centuries. For others the highlights include the Baroque style exterior with its wonderful gardens, sculptures and fountains.
After visiting this national treasure, you are brought back to your hotel in Warsaw.
