This full day Yangon shore trip includes a city tour, time to shop in the local market and stops at the cities most famous pagodas including Shwedagon and Chauk Htat Gyi, plus the Karawait Palace and Kandawgyi park.
After meeting your guide at the port you immediately start your Yangon city tour where you see the Sule pagoda, then enjoy a walk around Mahabandoola Park, the colonial courthouse and the city hall. Then you continue along the famous Strand Road and visit the bustling Yangon harbor. Throughout the morning you will learn about the parks, religious temples and unique buildings as you travel through this diverse urban landscape.
Your guide will recommend a break at a local teashop to enjoy Burmese food and tea (meal not included) in the typical atmosphere.
You will visit the Bogyoke Aung San Market (formerly Scott’s market) and have the chance to do some shopping (closed Mondays and public holidays). There are hundreds of stalls offering food, clothes, handicrafts, gems stores and much more.
This afternoon you visit the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda. This huge reclining Buddha is located in the most well-known Buddhist temple in Bahan Township. The reclining Buddha is amazing and there are fantastic vantage points throughout the building that allow unique perspectives on the shapes and colors of his pigmentation and other qualities.
Next is a visit to the Karawait Palace and Kandawgyi (Royal Lake) park. This is one of the most recognizable sites in Myanmar and is used for cultural events, arts and crafts shows, live performances and more.
You finish your day with an extended visit to one of the world's most spectacular monuments, the Shwedagon Pagoda. The pagoda is believed to be 2,500 years old and the central stupa is surrounded by dozens of intricately decorated buildings and statues. The stupa is said to be the heart of Myanmar and you will see many Myanmar people praying and making offerings at Shwedagon. This is a fascinating place to spend time watching the world go by and hopefully be there for the setting sun, which is an unforgettable experience.
After visiting these prominent sites in Yangon, you return to the pier.
