This Yangon shore trip explores Thanlyin (Syriam) including its Kyauktan Island Pagoda and the Kyaik Khauk Pagoda. You also visit the National Races Village where you learn about the different cultural groups which make up Myanmar's population.
Your driver and Licensed English-speaking guide will meet you at your cruise ship inside the Yangon pier and you start your journey to the village of Thanlyin (Syriam) which is not far outside of Yangon.
Thanlyin's major attractions are the Kyauktan Island Pagoda and the Kyaik Khauk Pagoda in the river at Kyauktan Village, as well as some old colonial
buildings dating back to the time when the city was under control of the British.
You will take a boat ride to see Kyauktan Island Pagoda, which is set on a tiny island in the river, its glass mosaic decorations flashing in the sunlight. The temple was founded more than 2,000 years ago, at which time it was much smaller than it is today. The pagoda contains a magnificent, golden Buddha image in a small intricately-decorated room. The temple complex contains several more richly-decorated structures with fine wood carvings and golden decorations topped with a multi-tiered roof called Pyatthat. The whole island is a temple complex, so you will have to take off your shoes and socks in the boat. The water around the small island is full of catfish waiting for food so enjoy feeding the fish around the island.
You also visit the Kyaik Khauk Pagoda which is surrounded by many small, golden stupas. Stupas are smaller dome or mound shaped structures which often surround a Temple. These usually hold relics and are places of mediation.
Free time is provided for lunch and also for a short visit to a local market.
Later in the day you visit the National Races Village located near Thanlyin Bridge. It is a large park with areas devoted to the different cultural groups which make up Myanmar's population. You will learn the differences and unique features of the various races, structures and plant life with Myanmar including a sampling of traditional houses from different peoples.
After the tour, you will be brought back to Cruise Terminal.
Myanmar Entry Visa- It is required to have a Myanmar Entry Visa to get off your ship in Myanmar. You should work directly with your cruise line to obtain the needed paperwork. Refunds are not provided for those who do not obtain an entry visa to exit their ship.
