Zakynthos Shore Excursion - This 4 hour excursion includes a walking tour of Zante, an olive oil tasting, a panoramic view of the island and a visit to the island's oldest monastery.

You start your day with a walking tour of Zante town. Zante is the island's capital and after the earthquake and fire of 1953, the town was rebuilt preserving the Venetian and Byzantine style. The town was historically known as "The Venice of the South". Today there are approximately 45,000 inhabitants. On your private guided walk you will visit Solomos Square, with the statue of the famous poet who wrote the Hymn of Freedom that later became the National Anthem of Greece. Important buildings such as the church of St. Nicholas and the Cultural center of Zakynthos surround the square.

Next you start to drive into the mountains and enjoy a stop in Lithakia at an olive oil factory. You can see how the oil is made on the island and have a chance to taste it.

After this stop you depart for the Monastery of Anafonitria, which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is the oldest monastery on the island (14th century). St. Dionysios, who is the patron saint of Zakynthos, served as abbot for the majority of his life here until he died in 1624. St. Dionysios was well known for his healing powers and compassion. In 1703 he was declared a Saint. The monastery has recently been renovated uncovering 15th century frescoes.

On the way back to the pier you enjoy a picturesque photo stop at Bohali. There are beautiful views of Zante town and the mountains of the Peloponnese on mainland Greece. Your photo stop, just below the Venetian Palace, is also a place where traditionally dressed young island folk offer a piece of Mandolato which is a traditional sweet made from the almond nougat.
